History

CE Block at Newtown, Kolkata, began with the construction of its first house in July 2009. In the next 3 years, numerous houses were constructed and people started to move in from different parts of India. By the end of 2015, there were about 33 families that had permanently moved into the community.

Towards the end of 2015, the need arose and the idea was floated for the requirement of an organized support structure for all residents (new or old, resident or non-resident), to ensure everyone lived in harmony in their new house, amidst new surroundings. Thus, the CE Block Cultural Association was formed on Jun 14, 2016, mainly due to the efforts of a few early residents who dedicated themselves to unconditional social service to ensure the successful formation of this association. The first executive committee was formed, which started its activities immediately.

The community celebrated its first Swaraswati Puja in Feb 2016, first Durga Puja in Oct 2016, and the first Kali Puja in Oct 2016. Please check out the Event Gallery and join in the harmony.

The association was ably supported by NKDA, HIDCO and several support groups within the community. A special mention needs to be given to the Women’s Community who ably support the endeavours of the association.

We are currently in the 3rd year of operation with an expected paid membership count to exceed 300 by end of FY 2018-19.

Please spread the word and come live in harmony with us.
